On Tuesday July 12, 2011 Roodline Lindor, a 20 year old Haitian Student who was studying computer science at one of the Universities in Dominican Republic, was found dead, assasinated after being raped by a group of Dominicans in the area Brisas del Este in the Las Americas Highway, Santo Domingo. One of the suspects that would be responsible the crime is the apartment complex owner where the young Haitian woman was trying to rent an apartment. Apartment owner stole the 1800 pesos deposit, then raped and murdered Rooldine Lindor, the young Haitian woman.
The Haitian student community in the Dominican Republic is in shock after the murder of Rooldine Lindor, a 20 year old student in Computer Engineering at the University
Technology Santiago (UTESA). According to the GARR, Rooldine was raped and murdered in Hipodromo, eastern part of Santo Domingo, having been robbed of 18,000 pesos (U.S. $ 500) for use to rent a house. Supposedly the killer is behind bars.
Rooldine Lindor was looking for a house or an apartment to rent, said the Group of Support to Returnees and Refugees (GARR) then Rooldine met a man named Eddy Mendoza, a Dominican, who told her that he could give her a lease at one of his apartments. On Tuesday, July 12, 2011, Mr. Mendoza had agreed to meet with Rooldine to sign a lease or housing contract. Oddly enough, Rooldine never returned home that day. After much research, said the support group, contacted by The Nouvelliste, her body was found in an abandoned house in Santo Domingo, Wednesday, July 13, at 2 pm According to reports, a rope was found around her body and stab wounds were found all over her body, especially around the neck.
For now, says the GARR, the autopsy on the body of the student is in progress. In fact, hours before, the tension was rising with family and friends of the victim took over the streets, demanding the body of the young student for autopsy.
According to our interlocutor, Eddy Mendoza, the alleged criminal, was arrested Wednesday, July 13 in Boca Chica in the Dominican Republic. So far the Dominican police Department has already answered several questions in connection with the murder of the student. Mr Mendoza was arrested while he was hanging out with three Dominican women.
While the Haitian and Dominican authorities have yet to respond to this terrible crime, many young Haitian voices have already been heard and have condemned the killing of Rooldine Lindor. Social networks such as(Adwaz, Facebook, twitter ...) have been the path chosen by different groups to condemn the killing of the student. A protest march was even announced for July 15 outside the offices of the Haitian Embassy in the Dominican Republic.
All our condolences to the family of Rooldine Lindor. We hope that justice is done ", commented on by André Lisane, responsible for communication of GARR.
